HCMC – The HCMC government has approved the District 8 government’s proposal to impose social distancing in accordance with the prime minister’s Directive 16 in Quarter 2, Ward 16, District 8 for 14 days, starting 12 p.m. today, June 21, due to the steady spike in new cases in the quarter.
HCMC Vice Chairman Duong Anh Duc asked District 8 to coordinate with the competent agencies to ensure compliance with anti-pandemic measures, social order as well as the sufficient supply of essential commodities and food for local residents and arrange checkpoints on streets and alleys from and to the quarter, the local media reported.
The relevant departments and agencies and the governments of nearby areas will have to support District 8 based on their functions and duties.
According to District 8, as of June 20, 110 infections had been detected in the district. In addition, new daily cases have soared. The district reported 84 infections on June 17 but the figure increased to 90 and 97 in the next two days.
In District 8’s Ward 16, there are 57 infected patients and eight areas under lockdown. This ward runs a high risk of community transmission as there might be silent carriers of the virus moving around undetected in the community.
On June 20, the district’s steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control surveyed Quarter 2 to propose the scale and duration of the social distancing measures.
The quarter is home to more than 2,000 residents, 21 enterprises with 311 workers and the Phu Dinh Port with 27 employees.
