CANTHO – The Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap will organize its first red mandarin festival in Lai Vung District from January 5-8, 2023, and a spring flower festival during its tourism week in Sa Dec City from January 6-13, 2023.
This information was provided during press briefings on December 27, 2022, in Lai Vung District, Dong Thap Province.
According to Nguyen Huu Nghia, chairman of the Lai Vung District People’s Committee, the first Lai Vung red mandarin festival aims to honor, introduce and promote red mandarins and mandarin-related products.
The event will highlight the red mandarin farming space, hold a seminar on the “preservation and promotion of red mandarin’s potential and value”, a talk show on “red mandarin – local potential and opportunities for all guests” and a “sample red mandarin garden” contest.
There will also be a showcase and introduction of mandarin-related products, “local food” and “five-fruit tray” contests, music performances and folk games.
Meanwhile, the spring flower festival in Sa Dec City is an annual event welcoming the Lunar New Year to honor traditional cultural values and satisfy residents’ spiritual needs.
The spring flower festival will be part of the province’s tourism week where cultural activities combined with tourist services will be held to further promote the image of Dong Thap Province.
The tourism week features the flower farming space in Sa Dec, rose and apricot flower bonsai contests, miniature scene decoration contests, street food and 102 dishes and cakes made from Sa Dec’s rice flour.
Dong Thap attracted 3.4 million guests in 2022, a four-time increase compared to 2019. The province is coordinating with HCMC to form a series of localities in tourism development.
