HCMC – A 16-seat minibus crashed into both a semi-trailer parked along a road and a container truck in the opposite direction in the wee hours on October 31, leaving five people dead.

The minibus was bringing 16 pilgrims home in Halong City, Quang Ninh Province, after a visit to a temple in Huu Lung District, Lang Son Province, around a three-hour-and-a-half drive from Halong.

At about 2:00 a.m., while travelling on National Highway 1 passing through Hoa Lac Commune, Huu Lung District, the minibus hit the semi-trailer, which was parked on the road side due to a breakdown, and then crashed into the container truck in the opposite direction.

The collision left four people dead at the scene and one died at a local hospital. Most of the victims are women aged 30 to 75, according to local officials.

According to the Traffic Police Department, limited visibility due to a lack of street lights has been initially identified as the main reason for the accident.
