HCMC – The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) today, May 3, named South Korean coach Kim Sang-sik as the new head coach of the Vietnam’s national men’s and under-23 football teams.
An official signing ceremony of a two-year contract is scheduled for May 6, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
Kim will make his debut as Vietnam’s coach in June, playing the Philippines and Iraq in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers.
Previously, Park Hang-seo, another South Korean coach, guided Vietnam to victory in the 2018 AFF Cup, the quarterfinals of the 2019 Asian Cup, and secured the team’s first-ever entry into the third round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in 2022.
Park has recently played a considerable role in fostering strong people-to-people ties between Vietnam and South Korea. In 2022, he was appointed as the global tourism ambassador of Seoul City at a promotional event held in HCMC.
