HCMC – The railway sector will arrange multiple trains to transport some 1,000 Chinese experts and employees to Quang Ngai Province this month upon their arrival in the northern province of Lang Son.

Phung Thi Ly Ha, deputy general director of Hanoi Railway Transport JSC, told VnExpress on June 18 that a number of trains would be put into service to transport the Chinese employees and experts from the Huu Nghi international border gate to the Dung Quat Economic Zone.

The first train departed on June 12, transporting 137 workers from Dong Dang Station in Lang Son Province to Quang Ngai Station, she said.

Firms at the zone had earlier booked these trains, so the railway sector cooperated with Quang Ngai Province to run the trains and quarantine the Chinese workers to ensure that Covid-19 infection prevention and control measures are properly implemented.

After the first train arrived in Quang Ngai Province, all the 137 Chinese employees and three staffers who served food to the passengers were quarantined for 14 days in line with prevailing regulations, according to Dao Viet Thang, head of Hanoi Railway Conductor Station.

All the carriages of the train were also sterilized by the Quang Ngai healthcare agencies.

Based on the latest test results, all the crew members and 137 Chinese workers on board the train have tested negative for Covid-19, Thang said.

Data from the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs indicated that the country has granted entry licenses to 33,770 Chinese employees, with over 15,000 of them working in Vietnam. Meanwhile over 7,600 laborers had earlier returned to China to celebrate the Tet holiday and were stranded by the coronavirus pandemic.

Vietnam has stopped the entry of foreigners since March 22 to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

At an annual Government meeting on June 9, the prime minister told localities and agencies to create favorable conditions for foreign experts, investors, managers and highly-skilled workers to be able to enter Vietnam for work.
