HCMC – As the Lunar New Year (Tet) 2026 approaches, a working delegation of Naval Region 2 set sail on January 16, transporting spring flowers, traditional Tet food and gifts to DK1 offshore platforms, on-duty naval vessels and the Con Dao special zone that is under the jurisdiction of HCMC, bringing the warmth of the mainland to officers and soldiers stationed in Vietnam’s distant seas.
Earlier the same morning, the Command of Naval Region 2 held a send-off ceremony in former Ba Ria–Vung Tau Province, which is part of HCMC.
The delegation, which includes two reporters from the Saigon Times Group, will visit and extend New Year greetings to officers on duty on the DK1 platforms, vessels operating on the southern continental shelf and in Con Dao.
Addressing the ceremony, Colonel Do Hong Duyen, deputy political commissar of Naval Region 2, said the annual spring voyage represents a strong emotional link between the mainland and the frontline at sea.
“Each trip is an enduring bond connecting the hinterland with the outposts. Every Tet gift and every message of encouragement helps reinforce the resolve of officers and soldiers who remain on duty during the most important time of the year,” he said.
The two working delegations are carrying Tet presents provided by the Ministry of National Defense, the Vietnam People’s Navy, the Command of Naval Region 2, along with donations from agencies and enterprises. The supplies include sticky rice, dong leaves, green beans, apricot and peach blossoms, kumquat trees, candied fruits and confectionery, ensuring a festive atmosphere for those celebrating Tet at sea.
