HCMC – Storm Prapiroon has intensified by two levels compared to the forecast made yesterday, July 21, and is moving towards Quang Ninh and Haiphong.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, due to the impact of the second storm of the year, Bach Long Vi Island in Quang Ninh Province is experiencing strong winds at level 7, with gusts at level 9.

Around 10 a.m. today, the storm was located east of the northern Gulf of Tonkin, about 150 kilometers southeast of Bach Long Vi Island. The typhoon is moving northwest at 10 to 15 kilometers per hour.

By 10 p.m. on July 22, the storm will be about 110 kilometers east of Quang Ninh-Haiphong, with strong winds at level 10, gusting at level 12. By 10 a.m. tomorrow, July 23, the storm will weaken into a tropical depression in the coastal area of Quang Ninh-Haiphong and will then move further inland towards the Vietnam-China border.

Due to the impact of the storm, the waters in the Gulf of Tonkin, including Bach Long Vi and Co To islands, will experience strong winds. Winds near the storm’s eye are forecast to reach levels 9 or 10, with gusts reaching level 12, causing very rough seas.

Starting this noon, Quang Ninh and Haiphong have stopped granting permits for tourist boats and overnight stays at coastal tourist spots for safety. Both localities are urgently calling for boats to seek shelter and are prepared to evacuate residents in vulnerable areas.
