TAIPEI – Sustainability and smart manufacturing took center stage at the Taipei International Machine Tool Show (TIMTOS) 2025, with industry leaders highlighting green initiatives to accelerate the sector’s transition toward net-zero emissions.

Under the theme “ESG Action!” TIMTOS 2025 introduced various initiatives to guide manufacturers toward more efficient and environmentally friendly operations. Key programs included the TIMTOS Keynote & Forum, Dr. Net Zero carbon consulting, Smart Manufacturing Guided Tours, and the Manufacturers Win Podcast. Experts from Taiwan and abroad discussed smart and green manufacturing trends, sustainability strategies, carbon reduction policies, and global supply chain integration.

With the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) set to take effect in 2026 and Taiwan’s enactment of the Climate Change Response Act, which introduced carbon fees in 2024, achieving net-zero emissions has become a pressing priority for industries worldwide.

At the event, Earth-Chain Enterprise showcased its commitment to sustainability by adhering to ISO 14064-1 standards and targeting net-zero emissions by 2026. The company’s highlight at TIMTOS was its electro-permanent magnetic chuck, a product recognized with the Taiwan SMEs Innovation Award and the Taiwan Excellence Award. The chuck operates without continuous electric power, reducing energy consumption and ensuring temperature stability for precision machining.

Albert Lin, deputy manager of Earth-Chain’s Sales Department, emphasized the company’s focus on green power and emission reduction. For example, the electro-permanent magnetic chuck is designed to minimize energy use while maintaining high precision. “It does not need an electric power supply to stay on,” Lin told The Saigon Times.

HIWIN Mikrosystem, a leader in direct drive technology, has been incorporating solar energy into its operations since 2016. The company also joined Taiwan Power Company’s green electricity sales pilot program, securing 250,000 kWh of renewable energy annually from 2024 for five years.

Speaking at the TIMTOS Keynote & Forum, Maurice Chang, senior director of Global Sales & Marketing at Director of HIWIN, emphasized the company’s role in enabling sustainable manufacturing. He said the firm is now focused on ESG, technology transformation, and circular economy strategies to enhance energy efficiency and carbon reduction.

Meanwhile, FFG MAG Automotive is actively advancing sustainability through energy-saving and carbon-reduction initiatives to realize its net-zero emissions target. Its products are designed to reduce environmental and social impact as well as energy consumption.

Paul Chen, vice president of Business Development at FFG, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to sustainability, saying that FFG is fully committed to green transformation, reducing environmental impact, and enhancing energy efficiency across operations.

FFG’s sustainability transformation began in late 2021, culminating in the official formation of the FFG Sustainability Committee in June 2022. The committee, comprising company executives and key project leaders, is driving initiatives to align with international ESG standards. The company’s Sustainability Committee is overseeing comprehensive ESG transformation efforts, integrating smart manufacturing and data analytics to help customers implement carbon reduction strategies.

TIMTOS 2025, a global exhibition focusing on smart manufacturing and machine tools, was co-organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI).

The 30th edition of TIMTOS, held from March 3 to 8, attracted thousands of businesses and visitors from around the world, reinforcing Taiwan’s position as a key player in the global machinery industry.
