HCMC – Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC is expected to accommodate around four million passengers during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday travel rush, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

From January 14 to February 12 (or from the 15th day of the final lunar month to the 15th day of the first lunar month), the airport expects to handle 26,033 flights with more than four million passengers, with 1.5 million of them international travelers.

On average, the airport will operate 800 flights daily, with a peak of 970 flights on the busiest day. Compared to last year’s Tet holiday, this represents a 6.25% increase in flight numbers and a 5.36% rise in passenger traffic.

Today alone, Tan Son Nhat is managing 814 flights with 117,200 passengers, including nearly 67,000 departing travelers across 407 flights.

To meet the surge in demand, the airport has increased its flight capacity to 48 flights per hour during the day and 46 per hour at night, from January 21 to February 9. Additional staff will be deployed to assist passengers during peak hours, specifically from January 22 to 27 and February 1 to 3.

The airport has directed non-airline service providers, including taxi and ride-hailing companies, to maintain high service quality during the holiday. Bus operators, in particular, should expand their fleets by 25% to meet the higher demand.
