HCMC – Thua Thien-Hue has officially established a container transport route to and from Chan May port.
Shipping lines and agents that have shipping routes for container handling at Chan May port with a frequency of at least two times a month will be supported with VND210 million each for shipment arrival.
Enterprises, organizations and individuals that have container shipping to and from Chan May port will also receive the province’s support.
Specifically, 20-feet and 40-feet containers will receive support of VND800,000 per container and VND1.1million per container, respectively. This aid policy is valid from now on until the end of 2023.
Previously, a representative of Thua Thien-Hue’s Maritime Administration was authorized to announce the decision to allow Chan May port to receive ships for container handling at wharf no. 2 at an investment promotion conference for container shipping lines at Chan May port on October 8.
Under the master plan for the development of Vietnam’s seaport system from 2021–2030 with a vision to 2050, Thua Thien-Hue’s port is categorized as type I, among which the Chan May wharf area consists of a general wharf, a container wharf, bulk cargo, liquid cargo/gas cargo wharf, in combination with receiving international cruise ships, serving the Chan May – Lang Co economic zone and neighboring areas directly.
Chan May wharf area is capable of receiving cargo ships of 70,000 tons, container ships of 4,000 TEUs or more, international cruise ships of 225,000 GT, and liquid cargo and gas carriers of 150,000 tons or more.
Chan May wharf area also serves as a transit port for goods shipment to Laos and the northeast of Thailand.
According to Nguyen Van Phuong, chairman of the Thua Thien-Hue People’s Committee, three wharves in Chan May, with a total length of 910 meters, can accommodate 5-6 million tons of cargo going through customs clearance yearly.
With the capability of receiving container ships and the post-pandemic economic recovery, Chan May port is expected to receive 20-25 million tons of goods annually in 2030, added the chairman.
The development of Chan May port, especially attracting container shipping companies to handle containers at Chan May port, is a prerequisite condition for the province and the central region to develop the industry.
The establishment of a container transport route via Chan May port will bring benefits for shipping companies and positively contribute to the socio-economic development of Thua Thien Hue.
Thua Thien Hue’s socio-economic situation in 2022 shows signs of strong recovery in almost all areas. The first six months saw an economic growth rate of 6.92%, higher than the same period of last year at 5.72%.
In the year till the end of September, 633 enterprises had been set up with total pledged capital of VND5,498 billion, an increase of 38.8% in volume and 59.6% in capital compared to the year-earlier period.
