HCMC – Tran Qui Thanh, former CEO of Tan Hiep Phat Beverage Group, and his two daughters begin standing trial today on alleged charges of misappropriating assets totaling VND1,048 billion from four victims.
The legal proceedings are scheduled to open at the HCMC People’s Court from April 23 to 25.
As per the indictment, Thanh, aged 71, and his daughters, Tran Uyen Phuong, 43, former deputy CEO of Tan Hiep Phat Trading and Service Co., Ltd, and Tran Ngoc Bich, 40, allegedly facilitated loans to individuals and businesses through an intermediary. However, instead of formalizing loan agreements, they coerced borrowers into signing share transfer or project contract assignment agreements to unlawfully acquire over VND1,000 billion.
These actions constitute the crime of abusing trust to fraudulently appropriate assets under Article 175.4 of the Penal Code, carrying potential sentences ranging from 12 to 20 years in prison.
The four victims named in the case include Dang Thi Kim Oanh, Nguyen Van Chung, Lam Son Hoang, and Nguyen Huy Dong, along with 35 related organizations and individuals.
Investigation authorities reported that the total value of assets misappropriated by Tran Qui Thanh, Tran Uyen Phuong, and Tran Ngoc Bich from the aforementioned victims amounts to VND1,048 billion.
