HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has proposed prioritizing investment in the Can Gio International Transshipment Port in HCMC by incorporating it into the national seaport development plan.

This proposal comes as part of the ministry’s efforts to gather input from relevant government bodies on the revision of the national seaport system development plan from 2021 to 2030, with a vision for 2050.

In the draft revised plan, the Can Gio International Transshipment Port is designated as part of the HCMC seaport system, specifically categorized under Group 4. Positioned at the mouth of the Cai Mep river, the planned Can Gio transshipment port has the potential to accommodate container vessels of up to 24,000 TEUs or even larger.

The project’s scale and investment timeline align with HCMC’s approved project for the construction of the Can Gio international transshipment port. According to this approved project, cargo throughput via the Can Gio transshipment port is projected to reach 3.84 million TEUs by 2030.

The draft revised national seaport system development plan will maintain the inclusion of potential ports in Can Gio District, which are part of the national plan to support HCMC’s socio-economic development.
