HCMC – The annual Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM) 2022 kicked off this morning, March 31, in downtown Hanoi, attracting over 500 business from 52 cities and provinces of Vietnam, as well as from six countries and territories.

This year’s edition is taking place in a particular context since the local tourism industry experienced a two-year hiatus induced by the Covid pandemic and is taking measures to recover. It is one of the most important events to restart trading and cooperation activities to revive and promote tourism services.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Doan Van Viet said the pandemic had plunged the global tourism industry into difficulty. However, looking on the bright side, it has brought about new opportunities for Vietnam’s tourism, enabling the country to reposition and restructure the industry to make new breakthroughs.

According to the official, the country needs to facilitate investments in projects to upgrade tourism infrastructure facilities and launch new travel products, new destinations and new air routes to keep up with new travel trends after the pandemic. The industry also needs to constantly improve the quality of the local tourism workforce, address obstacles, and encourage innovation in the field.

During the four-day event, many seminars, conferences and tourism promotion activities will be held.
