HCMC – The Investigation Police Agency under the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) has prosecuted and detained Truong Huy San (also known as Osin Huy Duc) and lawyer Tran Dinh Trien, said local news reports.
The decisions to prosecute and detain the two men were made today, June 7.
San is being investigated for the crime of abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State and the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals, as stipulated in Article 331 of the Penal Code.
According to the MPS, the Investigation Police Agency has filed legal proceedings against the case of “Abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State and the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals” that occurred in Hanoi and other provinces and cities.
In connection with the case, the agency has prosecuted and detained Tran Dinh Trien, head of the Vi Dan Law Office and a member of the Hanoi Bar Association.
Initial investigation results showed that San and Trien had violated the law by abusing democratic freedoms and posting articles on Facebook that violated the interests of the State and the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals.
Police determined that the actions of San and Trien constituted the crime of abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State and the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals,” as specified in Clause 2, Article 331 of the Penal Code.
According to the Investigation Police Agency, San and Trien are cooperating with law enforcement while in police custody.
Police have searched the residences and workplaces of the two detainees.
