HCMC – The police have arrested a senior official at the Ministry of Finance and another at the Ministry of Industry and Trade on alleged charges of irresponsibility that led to severe consequences in connection with the Xuyen Viet Oil case.
The detainees include Dang Cong Khoi, deputy head of the Price Management Department at the Ministry of Finance, and Hoang Anh Tuan, deputy head of the Domestic Markets Department at the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The information was given by a representative from the Investigation Security Department at the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) during a press briefing held in Hanoi today, December 27.
The arrests come as the police are expanding an investigation into violations of regulations on the management and use of State assets causing losses, lack of responsibility leading to severe consequences, and accepting and giving bribes, which were discovered at Xuyen Viet Oil Travel and Transport Trading Co., Ltd. and some agencies.
The total number of arrests in the case has risen to seven.
Among those previously arrested are Mai Thi Hong Hanh, director of Xuyen Viet Oil, Nguyen Thi Nhu Phuong, deputy director of the firm, both charged with mismanagement and misuse of State assets causing losses; and Le Duc Tho, former Party secretary of Ben Tre Province, charged with abusing his position and power to influence others for personal gains.
Also involved in this case are Le Duy Minh, director of the HCMC Department of Finance and former director of the HCMC Tax Department, and Do Thang Hai, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade. They are both charged with receiving bribes.
