HCMC – U.S. President Joe Biden has congratulated Vietnam’s State President To Lam on his election to the post of General Secretary of the 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
“I congratulate President To Lam on his selection as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee,” said a statement posted on the White House website on August 7.
He also recalled that nearly one year ago, Vietnam and the United States launched the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking a new era of strong cooperation between the two nations.
President Biden said that he and Vice President Kamala Harris look forward to working with Party General Secretary Lam to continue advancing this historic progress, which supports a strong, independent, prosperous, and resilient Vietnam.
Leaders of many countries and territories also congratulated Party General Secretary and State President To Lam.
State President To Lam was elected as General Secretary of the 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam on August 3, succeeding the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, who passed away on July 19 at the age of 80.
