HCMC – Unseasonal rains are forecast to continue in southern Vietnam in the coming days, especially at night, as the equatorial trough begins to be active, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported on March 3.

Forecasters said the south is entering a transitional phase marked by prolonged daytime heat and the potential for out-of-season rain.

In HCMC, it was sunny on March 3. Daytime temperatures remained high. In the north, a cold front is moving toward Hanoi and the northeastern provinces, before expanding to the Red River Delta and parts of the North-Central Coast.

Temperatures in Hanoi dropped on March 3 compared with previous days, accompanied by scattered showers. Some northeastern provinces may see moderate rain.

Forecasters warned of gusty winds and localized extreme weather as the incoming cold air mass interacts with existing heat.

Meteorologists described the cold front as medium in intensity but capable of causing sharp temperature swings within a short period. Significant differences between day and night temperatures could trigger localized thunderstorms.
