Van Don airport to remain shut until March 3

HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has decided to extend the closing of the Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh Province until 6 a.m. on March 3 to prevent the spread of Covid-19, following a proposal from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

CAAV last weekend continued to seek the ministry’s approval to extend the airport’s closure until March 3, as the provincial government asked the airport’s employees to continue self-quarantining at home for 14 days until March 2, reported Tuoi Tre Online.

Earlier, following Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s order, the Northern Airports Authority decided to temporarily shut down the airport in 24 hours from January 28 to 29 to combat the coronavirus, as an airport staff member tested positive for the virus.

By the afternoon of January 28, the Transport Ministry issued a decision to suspend the airport’s operation from January 29 to February 13 to contain the spread of the deadly disease.

On February 5, CAAV proposed the ministry prolong the airport’s closure until February 21, since the authorities of Quang Ninh had imposed a lockdown in Cai Rong Town of the province’s Van Don District from January 30 to February 21.
