HCMC – Deputy Minister of Health Truong Quoc Cuong has signed a decision approving the Hayat-Vax vaccine for emergency use, making it the seventh Covid-19 vaccine to get emergency use authorization in Vietnam.
Produced in China and packaged in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Hayat-Vax vaccine is an inactivated vaccine, with each dose of 0.5 milliliter containing 6.5 units of inactivated Covid-19 antigen.

The semi-finished product of the Beijing Institute of Biological Products in China is packaged and shipped by Julphar, a pharmaceutical manufacturer in the UAE.

The Ministry of Health asked Vimedimex Medi-Pharma JSC to work with relevant agencies to appraise batches of the vaccine before the vaccine is used and ensure the safety and quality of vaccine shipments to Vietnam.

Besides, the firm was told to cooperate with the Administration of Science, Technology and Training under the ministry to assess the safety and efficacy of the vaccine during the use period and collaborate with the General Department of Preventive Medicine to store and distribute the vaccine doses.

The use of the vaccine must comply with the guidelines of the ministry, the local media reported.

Vimedimex Medi-Pharma JSC in July proposed the prime minister direct the Ministry of Health to accelerate the assessment of a request for approval of the Hayat-Vax vaccine.

Earlier, Vietnam had approved six Covid vaccines for emergency use — AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen, Sinopharm’s Vero Cell and Sputnik V.

Five of them, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer, Vero Cell and Sputnik V, are being administered in Vietnam.

As of this afternoon, September 10, the country had administered more than 26 million Covid-19 vaccine doses, with some 4.3 million people having received two shots.
