HCMC – Vietnam’s President Luong Cuong held talks with Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font in Santiago on November 11 (local time) to strengthen bilateral relations and discuss regional and international issues.
The meeting took place shortly after a welcome ceremony in honor of Cuong and the Vietnamese high-level delegation held at Constitution Square in Santiago.
The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the growing Vietnam-Chile relations, particularly in trade and investment. Chile is Vietnam’s fourth-largest trading partner in Latin America, while Vietnam is Chile’s largest trading partner in ASEAN.
They also explored ways to deepen cooperation in agriculture, renewable energy, and defense. The establishment of a Vietnamese Defense Attaché Office in Chile is seen as a key step towards strengthening military ties between the two countries.
Cuong underscored Vietnam’s commitment to bolstering the Comprehensive Partnership with Chile, the first South American nation to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1971.
The two presidents agreed to deepen bilateral ties and work closely within various international organizations and forums, including the United Nations (UN), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC), and the ASEAN-Pacific Alliance.
Following the talks, both leaders witnessed the signing of several bilateral agreements between Vietnam and Chile, such as those on defense, agriculture, and culture.
