HCMC – Vietnam looks to have 17-18 million international tourists and 110 million domestic tourists in 2024, according to a preliminary report released by the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism on the tourism sector performance in 2023 and plans for 2024.

With the goal in foreign tourist attraction, Vietnam’s tourism plans to recover 95-100% the 2019 level. The industry also eyes 110 million domestic visitors, including approximately 72.5 million guests who stay more one day.

The total tourism revenue in 2024 is estimated to reach VND840 trillion, which is 1.25 times higher than the total revenue in 2023 and 1.2 times higher than the figure in 2019.

To achieve the set goals, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism will implement key programs and initiatives for the industry, develop a green tourism action plan, and encourage the development of new tourism products.

The sector will also create various marketing campaigns, establish a national tourism database system, and promote tourism activities both domestically and internationally.

Vietnam has welcomed 12.6 million foreign visitors this year, exceeding the initial target set at the beginning of the year of eight million and reaching 70% of the pre-pandemic level in 2019.

The number of domestic tourists has also reached more than 102 million in 2023, surpassing the figure of 85 million in 2019.

Despite a notable recovery this year, the global tourism sector will encounter ongoing difficulties and challenges in the coming year due to the unpredictable global situation, slowing economic growth, rising inflation, and military conflicts in some regions.
