HCMC – More than 148 foreign service providers, including tech giants like Google, Meta, Microsoft, and TikTok, registered and paid over VND2.8 trillion in taxes in the first quarter of the year.

According to the General Department of Taxation, tax revenue from e-commerce providers and vendors reached VND34.5 trillion in the first quarter, up 19% compared to the same period last year.

Among those, over 66,000 e-commerce vendors that are households and individuals fulfilled their tax obligations through the e-commerce tax portal, contributing nearly VND548 billion in total revenue.

The tax sector collected VND668.31 trillion for the state budget in January-March, reaching 38.9% of the full-year target and rising 36.3% year-on-year.

Across the country, 40 out of 63 provinces and cities collected more than 30% of their annual revenue targets, while eight localities fell short, reaching less than 26% of projections.

Notably, 56 out of 63 the country’s provinces and centrally governed cities reported year-on-year tax revenue growth compared to the same period last year.

The tax authorities are implementing specialized initiatives to combat revenue loss and tax evasion, focusing on personal income tax, imported agricultural products, household businesses, and real estate enterprises.

To meet budget revenue targets, tax agencies will closely monitor economic developments in April and the second quarter, particularly the new U.S. tariff policy. They will also continue reviewing revenue sources to ensure efficient collection, with a focus on supporting the adoption of e-invoices and ensuring accuracy in tax declarations.
