HCMC – The Ministry of Health this morning, May 24, announced that a 50-year-old man became Vietnam’s 43rd Covid-19 fatality since the pandemic hit the country early last year. He is also the eighth death in the current fourth coronavirus wave.

He died of septic shock, multi-organ failure, sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding, Covid-19 and cirrhosis, said the ministry.

The man had a medical history of cirrhosis as he had consumed a lot of alcohol over the years. One week before being hospitalized, he developed symptoms of a high fever, shivers, jaundice and digestive disorders. He received medical treatment at the Hai Duong Provincial General Hospital but his condition did not improve.

On April 25, he was transferred to the Hanoi-based National Hospital for Tropical Diseases where he was diagnosed with blood sepsis and cirrhosis. He tested positive for the coronavirus on May 5.

He was taken into intensive care but his condition worsened. After that, he experienced septic shock, gastrointestinal bleeding, increased cirrhosis and multi-organ failure. He died last night.
