Vietnam, Russia strengthen parliamentary ties

HCMC – Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his support for the legislatures of Vietnam and Russia in implementing their cooperation agreements during a meeting with Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

On September 10 (local time), NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man met President Putin at the Kremlin in Moscow as part of his official visit to Russia.

Chairman Man conveyed the greetings from Party General Secretary and President To Lam, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. He discussed the outcomes of his visit and explored future cooperation between the two countries and their parliaments.

President Putin praised the outcomes of the visit by NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his high-level delegation. He also expressed condolences for the losses incurred by Vietnam due to typhoon Yagi.

The Russian leader suggested that the legislative bodies of both countries continue to enhance their parliamentary cooperation, which would contribute to the effective promotion of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia. He reiterated his support for the implementation of the signed cooperation agreements.

During his visit, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man also met with several Russian political leaders. Gennady Zyuganov, leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF), commended Vietnam’s achievements and noted that they serve as a successful model for other nations. He affirmed his commitment to maintaining strong traditional ties with Vietnam.

Chairman Man and Sergey Mironov, chairman of the A Just Russia – Patriots – For Truth (SR) party, agreed on the need to overcome challenges and work towards achieving bilateral trade of US$10 billion by 2030.

On the evening of September 10, NA Chairman Man and the Vietnamese delegation concluded their visit and departed Moscow. The visit included co-chairing the third meeting of the Vietnam-Russia Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.
