Vietnam sees holiday tourism surge

HCMC – The holiday marking the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the south and the reunification of the nation (April 30, 1975 – 2025) and International Labor Day (May 1) has sparked a sharp increase in domestic and international tourism.

This year’s holiday lasts five days, from April 30 to May 4, resulting in large numbers of people traveling at home and abroad.

Key tourist destinations such as Quang Ninh and Kien Giang have reported strong growth in visitor numbers and tourism revenue.

According to data from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ninh Province, nearly 500,000 tourists have come to the northern province which is known for the UNESCO-listed Halong Bay, up 16% year-on-year.

Total tourism revenue reported by the province reached an estimated VND1.33 trillion, a 45% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

On May 1 alone, Quang Ninh welcomed some 320,000 visitors, with revenue from tourism services that day put at VND880 billion, up 52% year-on-year.

Places of interest in the province have attracted large crowds, with Halong Bay receiving 177,000 tourists, Mong Cai 42,000, Uong Bi nearly 18,000, Van Don District 31,000, and Co To Island about 11,500.

In the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang, which is known for Phu Quoc Island, the Department of Tourism reported 143,290 tourist arrivals on April 30 and May 1, up more than 50% year-on-year. Among them were 11,842 international visitors. Total tourism revenue exceeded VND458 billion, up 61% year-on-year.

Phu Quoc Island remains the main attraction, with 63,425 visitors coming, more than 44% of the province’s total tourist arrivals on April 30 and May 1. Of these, 10,846 were international guests.

From April 28 to May 1, around 70 travel agencies from northern Vietnam conducted surveys and formed strategic partnerships with local destinations in Kien Giang, aiming to strengthen tourism connectivity and cooperation with the province, particularly with Phu Quoc.
