HCMC – The Ministry of Construction has called on local authorities to accelerate land demarcation for the North-South high-speed railway project, which is scheduled to get off the ground in December 2026.
The ministry urged provinces and cities along the rail line to complete necessary documents and mark land boundaries to prepare for site clearance, reported the Government news website (baochinhphu.vn).
On April 23, the Government issued a resolution assigning specific tasks to ministries and localities to prepare for the project. The Railway Project Management Board has handed over pre-feasibility reports and land boundary maps to local governments.
Local authorities are required to form land clearance committees, review resettlement needs, and identify available land for displaced residents. Boundary marking will take place during the feasibility study phase, with coordination between central and local agencies.
The Ministry of Construction said early land demarcation is necessary to avoid future compensation disputes and to ensure the project stays on schedule.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha earlier asked the 15 provinces through which the express rail line will pass to set up land clearance committees by July 1.
The 1,541-kilometer railway will run from Ngoc Hoi Station in Hanoi to Thu Thiem Station in HCMC. It is designed for a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour and will have 23 passenger stations and five freight stations.
The project is estimated to cost VND1.7 quadrillion (US$67 billion). About 80% of the funding will come from the state budget, with the rest sourced from official development assistance or other legal sources.
