HCMC – Vietnam is taking extra security measures at Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, and Danang international airports from October 20 to 28 to ensure safety during the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime signing ceremony and high-level conference in Hanoi City.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said the Immigration Department under the Ministry of Public Security is implementing Level 1 aviation security measures, the first of three enhanced security levels used for major international events or potential threats.

The measures will not disrupt airport operations but require increased vigilance and preventive actions against possible unlawful interference.

Airports have been asked to strengthen cybersecurity, monitor information systems, deploy additional patrols, and enhance camera surveillance in public areas. Unattended baggage and unidentified items will be inspected, along with regular checks of waste bins, restrooms, and secluded spots.

Security forces will conduct random checks, strictly control access to restricted zones, and intensify baggage and cargo screening. Passengers are advised to arrive 30 to 45 minutes earlier than usual due to potentially longer screening times.

The UN Convention against Cybercrime, themed “Combating Cybercrime – Sharing Responsibility – Shaping the Future”, will be signed at the National Convention Center in Hanoi City on October 25 and 26.

The convention, comprising nine chapters and 71 articles, was developed over nearly five years of negotiations to establish a global legal framework for combating cybercrime.

Speaking at a review meeting on the rehearsal on October 23 of the signing ceremony, which was presided over by State President Luong Cuong, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu said about 110 countries and more than 10 international organizations would attend the signing ceremony and that the total number of foreign delegates attending the signing ceremony is estimated at around 1,500.

António Guterres, Secretary-General of the UN, will visit Vietnam and take part in the signing ceremony.
