HCMC – The Ministry of Information and Communications is accelerating investments in fiber optic networks to enhance internet access capacities, with plans to deploy at least two new undersea cables by 2025.
The announcement was made during the Internet Day 2024 conference and exhibition held on November 27 in Hanoi. Themed “A New Leap for Vietnam’s Internet (Breakthrough with DC, Cloud, 5G, and AI),” the event highlighted strategies to elevate Vietnam’s digital infrastructure.
Nguyen Thanh Phuc, director general of the Authority of Telecommunications, emphasized the critical role of digital infrastructure in socio-economic development, noting that robust investments are essential to align Vietnam with global technological advancements.
To support these objectives, the ministry has introduced a digital infrastructure development framework outlining four key components, including the extensive deployment of fiber optic networks and 5G coverage.
Strengthening Vietnam’s undersea fiber optic cable systems is vital for ensuring stable international data exchange and uninterrupted communication, Phuc said.
By 2025, Vietnam aims to bring at least two new undersea cables into service, with plans to expand this network to eight by 2030. These upgrades are expected to meet rising bandwidth demands and establish a sustainable international connectivity network.
To achieve its goal of becoming a fully digital nation, the ministry has outlined a comprehensive development strategy. Key initiatives include boosting investments in data centers, advancing digital technology platforms, and expanding IoT connectivity.
