HCMC – Vietnam imported 15,061 complete built-up (CBU) cars in August, a 12.6% drop compared to the previous month, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
In the first eight months of the year, total car imports amounted to 106,627 units, a 22.9% year-on-year increase. Of these, cars with nine seats or fewer made up 87,352 units, up by 25.4%, while only 9,078 trucks were imported during the same period, down by 21.7%.
Thailand was the biggest car exporter to Vietnam, with 6,384 units, followed by Indonesia and China with 5,770 and 2,443 units, respectively. These three countries accounted for around 14,600 vehicles, representing 97% of the total car import volume.
Cars with nine seats or fewer dominated the market, contributing 12,776 units, or 84.8%, to the total import volume.
Only 18 cars with more than nine seats were sold nationwide. Additionally, the import volume of trucks saw a significant decrease of 40%, with just 1,351 units valued at US$36.7 million in August.
