HCMC – The largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) warehouse in Vietnam, capable of accommodating vessels of 100,000 DWT, has been inaugurated in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.

Located in Cai Mep Industrial Park, Phu My Town, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, the LNG 1 MMTPA Thi Vai warehouse is a joint project developed by PetroVietnam Gas (PV Gas), in collaboration with a consortium comprising Samsung C&T and PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation.

During the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang emphasized the strategic importance of LNG 1 MMTPA Thi Vai in the restructuring of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, as well as Vietnam’s transition towards sustainable energy development.

He urged PetroVietnam and PV Gas to explore the second phase of LNG Thi Vai warehouse development, which was previously approved, to increase its capacity to three million tons per year. He also stressed the need to expedite the investment in the Son My LNG Terminal and other major projects to ensure their successful operation.

The LNG 1 MMTPA Thi Vai warehouse project commenced on October 28, 2019, with a total investment of nearly US$300 million.

Featuring a tank capable of storing 180,000 square meters, the warehouse is expected to handle one million tons of LNG annually. It fully complies with both local and international standards and safety requirements.
