HCMC – A set of materials distributed during an energy symposium that kicked off on August 25 in Hanoi was found not covering Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos in the map of Vietnam and was thus withdrawn by the organizing committee.

During the “Developing rooftop solar energy in Vietnam” symposium, held as part of the Vietnam Renewable Energy Week 2020 which was launched in the capital city in the day, the organizing committee shared the faulty material.

Speaking at the event, Nguy Thi Khanh, director of the Green Innovation and Development Center, said, “There is a mistake in the media material as it uses an old map.” She apologized to the delegates attending the event and withdrew the material and updated it with the new one containing adequate information regarding Vietnam’s sovereignty over its islands and waters.

On the afternoon of the same day, the organizing committee officially apologized for the incident and said it will comply with the further decision of the authorities on the issue.

The organizing committee and the delegates discovered the mistake in the material and a standee introducing solar power during the opening of the event. The material and the standee were provided by the board’s business partners, it added.

The Vietnam Renewable Energy Week 2020, themed “Breakthrough to recovery and green development for a peaceful life”, was jointly launched by the Vietnam Sustainable Energy Alliance, the Vietnam Climate Action Alliance and the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations.

The four-day program includes four symposiums held both online and offline. It is aimed at updating advanced movements in the world and Vietnam’s transition toward renewable energy as well as open discussions over challenges and obstacles facing the country’s renewable energy development. It also put forward measures boosting sustainable energy development and ensuring energy security.
