HCMC – More than VND230 trillion, or roughly US$10 billion, was mobilized to directly serve the Covid-19 prevention and control effort between 2020 and 2022, according to a report by a National Assembly (NA) supervisory delegation.

The National Assembly spent a whole day today discussing mobilization, management and use of resources for the Covid-19 response; enforcement of laws and policies for grassroots healthcare and preventive medicine.

Of the total amount raised, over VND186 trillion was funded by the State budget and the rest came from other sources.

The report on the Covid-19 combat of the National Assembly also provided the latest data on the serious criminal cases involving Viet A Technology Corporation and Covid repatriation flights.

For the Viet A case, many violations have been exposed in procurement and trading of Covid-19 test kits.

The report indicated that some units bought test kits directly from Viet A or via intermediaries with a total value of up to VND2,161 billion.

As of May 2023, according to a Ministry of Public Security report, the police had filed charges against 30 cases with 107 people accused of violations relating to the test kit price gouging.

For Covid repatriation flights, the report said that the Security Investigation Agency of the Ministry of Public Security had launched legal proceedings against many senior officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government Office, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Health and some localities on bribery charges.

As of April 3, the Security Investigation Agency of the Ministry of Public Security had submitted the files of 54 suspects to the People’s Supreme Procuracy for indictment on charges of bribe brokering, giving and taking, abuse of power while on duty and asset misappropriation.
