HANOI – National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue has signed a resolution to spend VND30 trillion from the Unemployment Insurance Fund to support workers affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The decision was made at an extraordinary meeting held by the NA Standing Committee on September 24 to discuss the Government’s proposal.

VND30 trillion from the 2020 balance of the fund will be spent to offer financial aid to workers participating in unemployment insurance. The support will be completed at the end of December this year.

Besides, employers will enjoy a reduction in unemployment insurance payments from 1% of employees’ monthly wages to zero within 12 months from October 1 to September 30, 2022. The financial aid for firms will be valued at VND8 trillion.

Speaking at the meeting, NA Chairman Hue said that over the past few months, the NA Standing Committee and the Government had issued numerous relief programs for residents and firms to help them ride out the hardships induced by the pandemic.

As the pandemic has taken a heavy toll on the livelihoods of residents and socio-economic activities, and disrupted production and supply chains, affecting workers and employers, it is necessary to continue rolling out other relief programs.
