Wildfire in Phu Quoc mangrove forest put under control

HCMC – A fire that occurred in the mangrove forest on the outskirts of Phu Quoc National Park in Kien Giang yesterday has been brought under control, said local news reports.

The wildfire broke out at around 12:50 p.m. yesterday, February 25, in the mangrove forest of Da Chong Hamlet, Bai Thom Commune, Phu Quoc City, requiring swift action from local authorities, border guards, and Phu Quoc National Park, who utilized specialized equipment to combat the fire.

By 5:30 p.m. on the same day, fire fighting forces successfully brought the fire under control, with around one hectare of mangrove forest damaged.

On February 12, another fire occurred in Bai Vong Hamlet, Ham Ninh Commune in the city.

The local authorities, in collaboration with the management board of the Phu Quoc National Park, have made further efforts to prevent wildfires and urged residents living near forests to refrain from deforestation.
