HCMC – Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) yesterday broke ground on a project to upgrade the runways and taxiways at Lien Khuong International Airport in Lam Dong Province.
The VND1,032-billion project aims to bolster operational capacity and drive economic growth for the Central Highlands, especially the renowned tourist destination of Dalat. To facilitate the construction, the airport has suspended all flight operations from March 4 until August 25 this year.
According to ACV, the upgrade is vital for elevating Lien Khuong to a 4E-class airport, enabling it to handle wide-body aircraft such as Airbus A350 and Boeing 787.
Lien Khuong International Airport serves as a vital transport artery for the Central Highlands, having previously surpassed its design capacity with a record nearly three million passengers per year. The current expansion sets a strategic foundation for the airport to reach five million passengers annually by 2030 and seven million by 2050.
