HCMC – Work will begin on a US$2.1 billion artificial intelligence (AI) data center in Tan Phu Trung Industrial Park on April 30.

Investors involved in a joint venture between AIC, Kinh Bac City Development Holding Corporation (KBC) and international investors met with HCMC Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc today, March 11.

At the meeting, Duoc witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation between the HCMC Department of Science and Technology and Accelerated Infrastructure Capital (AIC) in developing the AI Data Center.

The investors have submitted an application for an investment registration certificate and plan to complete capital disbursement by the end of the first quarter of 2027.

The project is designed as a high-standard AI data center with a focus on energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact.

In its initial phase, the project will develop an “AI factory” with a capacity of about 50 megawatts of IT/GPU load, equivalent to around 28,000 graphics processing units (GPUs). The infrastructure is expected to be ready for commercial operation in 2026.

Once operational, the center will provide high-performance computing capacity for AI applications, cloud computing and big data processing for domestic and international customers. It is also expected to support Vietnamese businesses and organizations developing AI applications.

Lam Dinh Thang, director of the HCMC Department of Science and Technology, said that data infrastructure and computing capacity are essential for the city’s digital transformation and digital economy development.

On December 27, 2025, the HCMC People’s Committee issued Decision No. 3470 establishing a task force to accelerate the AI data center project, with the department serving as the standing agency.

The task force will coordinate with relevant departments and investors to address issues related to planning, technical infrastructure and investment procedures.

City authorities expect the project to support the development of an innovation ecosystem and attract high-tech companies, research and development centers, and AI and cloud computing firms to the city.

HCMC plans to continue improving policies to attract digital infrastructure and high-tech projects, with the goal of becoming a regional hub for AI computing infrastructure and digital technology.
