HCMC – A total of 7,718 workplace accidents occurred nationwide last year, resulting in 7,923 people getting injured and significant losses of over VND14.1 trillion, heard at a press conference held yesterday by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.
The number of people getting injured due to workplace accidents this year surged by 18.99% over the previous year. Those accidents also resulted in a loss of 143,000 workdays.
Some serious workplace accidents resulting in lots of fatalities and injuries occurred in HCMC, Hanoi, Binh Duong, Phu Tho, Bac Ninh, and Binh Thuan in various industries including construction, electricity, services, and mineral exploitation.
Among those, 22 workplace accidents were proposed for prosecution, while 19 have been charged by the police.
For occupational diseases, 1,328 cases were detected in 2022, accounting for 0.3% of those examined, up 0.2% over the same period in 2021.
The Department of Labor Safety has attributed the year-on-year increase of 18.66% in workplace accidents in 2022 to the neglect of maintenance and safety training in enterprises after the resumption of production.
Moreover, workers’ health has been impacted in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.
