36 new Covid-19 infections confirmed in HCMC’s new cluster

HCMC – Among Vietnam’s 152 new Covid-19 cases confirmed this evening, May 27, up to 36 community transmission cases were found in HCMC, linked to the religious sect Revival Ekklesia Mission in Go Vap District. This is a new coronavirus cluster in the city, said the Ministry of Health.

Aside from HCMC, the two biggest coronavirus hotspots of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh reported 84 and 22 cases, respectively. The capital city of Hanoi confirmed seven cases, and Danang City had one. All of them were domestic cases.

The remaining two cases were quarantined upon their arrival in Vietnam from overseas, the ministry added.

Up to now, 3,255 people in 30 provinces and cities nationwide have been infected with the disease through community transmission in the latest coronavirus wave, which started on April 27.

In related news, the government of HCMC has issued an urgent dispatch signed by Duong Anh Duc, vice chairman of the municipal government, on the intensification of Covid-19 safety measures.

According to the dispatch, the city ordered the suspension on additional services such as spas, beauty salons, restaurants, tourist sites, museums, libraries, pedestrian streets, night markets, public parks, outdoor sports centers with more than 10 people, starting from tomorrow, reported Tuoi Tre Online.

Also, family-run eateries are allowed to offer take-away services only. Violators would be tackled in line with the prevailing regulations.

Hotel restaurants are required to serve hotel guests, not walk-in ones. They must practice social distancing and must not serve more than 20 guests at the same time.

In addition, homestay, Airbnb service operators must stop receiving new guests. Further, religious rites and gatherings of over 10 people have to be stopped.

In another development, the government of Lam Dong Province has allowed the resumption of some services such as hair salons, beauty centers, street food stores, sports activities, starting from 14:00 today. Providers of these services have to comply with Covid-19 preventive measures and are not allowed to receive customers coming from virus-hit regions.

Further, this Central Highlands province is still suspending some non-essential services including bars, clubs, karaoke and massage parlors, game shops, night markets, cinemas, music shows, performances, sports competitions until further notice.
