CAN THO – Some 500 tons of rice under the “Com Vietnam Rice” brand of the Loc Troi Group has been exported to Germany, the Netherlands and France.
The batch was mainly fragrant rice. The rice shipped to France will be sold at the Carrefour supermarket chain.
Nguyen Duy Thuan, general director of Loc Troi Group, said the export volume was not high, but it was the first step to sending the group’s branded rice to the global market.
In September 2020, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development chose Loc Troi to export the first batch following the validity of the European Union-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement. To date, the group has exported some 30,000 tons of rice to the European Union.
The firm currently operates 24 factories across the Mekong Delta with a capacity of nearly 26,000 tons per day. They can store one million tons of dried, unhusked rice.
According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in the first four months of the year, Vietnam exported nearly 3,700 tons of rice worth US$2.55 million to the Netherlands, up 5.3% in volume and 14.3% in value.
The country also shipped to France some 1,600 tons of rice valued at US$1.1 million, rising 12.75 in volume and 17.1% in value year-on-year.
