Virus-hit southern provinces in dire need of vaccines: Deputy Minister

Must read

HCMC – As the southern provinces of Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Long An are home to many factories with a large number of workers, the Ministry of Health will propose the Government prioritize Covid-19 vaccinations for them, said Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son.

During an inspection into the pandemic prevention and control in Binh Duong Province on June 23, Deputy Minister Son said that besides the vaccines, the ministry would help Binh Duong with testing and contact tracing if needed, the local media reported.

A delegation of the national steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control inspected a boarding house in Thuan An City’s Binh Hoa Ward, a centralized quarantine center at Ly Thai To High School in Thuan An City’s An Phu Ward and the Binh Duong General Hospital.

Son asked the province to employ anti-pandemic measures more drastically.

Binh Duong Vice Chairman Nguyen Loc Ha said during a previous online meeting with the Government that leaders of Binh Duong Province had repeatedly made the proposal on the vaccines as more than half of Binh Duong’s population comprises laborers from other localities.

The province had repeatedly reported new Covid-19 infections over the past few days but many of them had been put under quarantine earlier.

The province has mobilized resources to curb the pandemic early and maintain production and business activities to ensure economic development.

Binh Duong currently has 1.2 million laborers working in 29 industrial parks and clusters.

To take the initiative in the fight against the pandemic, the province has called on enterprises to buy Covid-19 test kits to conduct tests for laborers.

Enterprises without plans to ensure safety for workers will be suspended. They must ask their workers to make daily health declarations and work out plans to respond in case Covid-19 patients are detected in their factories.

Tomorrow, the delegation will visit neighboring Dong Nai Province.
