HCMC – The director of the Automobile Registration and Inspection Center 50-14D in HCMC, Hoang Tan Luc, was detained today, January 11, for taking bribes.
Be Binh Duong, deputy director of the center, and five others were also detained by the police for taking brides. The center is located in Hoc Mon District.
The arrests came as the police are expanding their probe of bribe brokering, giving and taking, and falsifying documents at auto registration and inspection centers in the city.
Over the past month, the police have detected irregularities at auto registration and inspection facilities in many parts of the country. They searched 13 centers, and filed charges against six cases with over 50 people involved in HCMC.
Currently, some 33 such centers in the country have been temporarily closed, with 29 under investigation, according to Vietnam Register.
Those centers are located in 13 provinces and cities, namely Phu Tho, Hoa Binh, Hanoi, HCMC, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Long An, Dong Thap, Ben Tre, Soc Trang, Tien Giang, Bac Giang and Bac Ninh.
