HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is scheduled to make an official visit to China and attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) conference from June 25 to 28, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The visit comes at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF founder and chairman Klaus Schwab. During his four-day trip to China, PM Chinh will participate in the WEF’s 14th Annual Meeting of the New Champions.
Other prime ministers from Barbados, New Zealand, and Mongolia will also be present at the event.
The World Economic Forum is a prestigious global platform that attracts leaders from various countries, international organizations, and prominent global corporations. Vietnam has been invited to participate in the forum’s annual meetings in Davos and its conferences in East Asia since establishing a relationship with the WEF in 1989.
PM Chinh had a meeting with WEF Chairman Klaus Schwab on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Cambodia in October 2022. During the meeting, the prime minister expressed his desire for the WEF’s support in diversifying Vietnam’s goods market and strengthening the country’s position in regional and global supply chains.
China has been Vietnam’s largest trading partner for many years, and Vietnam is China’s largest trading partner in ASEAN. According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, bilateral trade between Vietnam and China in 2022 reached US$175.6 billion.
