HCMC – A rare white sea turtle hatched at the Six Senses Con Dao’s in-house incubation center on the morning of October 24, according to the local media.
The unique sea turtle, named Blanche, belongs to the Chelonia Mydas species, commonly known as the green sea turtle. Blanche was born with leucism, a genetic condition that results in minimal melanin pigment in her skin and shell.
Leucistic hatchlings are exceptionally rare, with some marine biologists estimating that they occur in only one out of many hundreds of thousands of sea turtle eggs laid.
