HCMC – The Government has proposed an action program for the development of Vietnam’s railway system, with an aim to begin work on the North-South express rail line in 2030 and put it into operation by 2045.
Currently, efforts are underway to formulate investment proposals for new railways and urban rail systems.
As per the action program, Vietnam is scheduled to begin construction of the North-South express railway project in 2030, giving priority to two sections — Hanoi-Vinh and HCMC-Nha Trang.
By 2045, the express railway is to be completed and begin transporting passengers. Meanwhile, the urban railway network in the two largest cities in the country will also be completed.
To achieve this goal, the Government has assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to prioritize allocating mid-term and annual State budgets for railway infrastructure in the 2025-2045 period, especially the North-South expressway railway project.
The Ministry of Transport calls upon companies to get involved in railway operations, transportation support services, as well as invest in transportation facilities and infrastructure.
