HCMC – Delays in constructing resettlement areas for households affected by the second phase of the North-South Expressway project are impeding the handover of cleared land for the project’s implementation.
The Construction and Investment Management Authority, under the Ministry of Transport, reports that one year after commencing, the second phase of the North-South Expressway project still faces obstacles in clearing land. Localities have transferred 670 km of cleared land for the project so far, achieving 93% of the goal. Among these, contractors have begun work on nearly 646 km, equivalent to 89.5%.
However, delays in constructing resettlement areas have resulted in only 76 out of 147 resettlement areas being completed thus far. This delay is preventing the handover of the remaining sites.
The work progress of the entire project represents 15% of the total contract value, according to authorities. Six out of 12 components have adhered to their plans, including Vung An-Bung, Bung-Van Ninh, Van Ninh-Cam Lo, Quang Ngai-Hoai Nhon, Quy Nhon-Chi Thanh, and Van Phong-Nha Trang.
The second phase of the eastern North-South Expressway project spans over 729 km and requires an investment of over VND146,990 billion. The project traverses 12 provinces and cities, including Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Can Tho, Hau Giang, Bac Lieu, Kien Giang, and Ca Mau. Comprising 12 components, the project is scheduled for completion in 2025, with traffic opening up in 2026.
