HCMC – Vietnam spent around US$1.43 billion importing 717,000 tons of meat and poultry products last year, up by 5.4% in volume and down by 3.9% in value against the previous year, according to data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
Vietnam bought meat and meat products from 57 countries globally. Among these, India was Vietnam’s leading meat supplier last year, providing 161,000 tons valued at US$476.5 million, up by 6.1% in volume and down by 1.4% in value compared to the previous year.
While meat imports from India and Russia slightly grew, imports from the U.S., Brazil, and South Korea declined.
On the export front, Vietnam earned around US$110 million from exports of 22,450 tons of meat and poultry products, a 19% increase in volume and a 30.4% surge in value against the previous year.
Vietnam’s meat and poultry products were exported to 28 markets worldwide in 2023, with Hong Kong, China, Belgium, Malaysia, Cambodia, France, and the U.S. standing out as the largest buyers.
