HCMC – Southern Vietnam is facing scorching temperatures as a heatwave sweeps through the region, with daytime temperatures soaring to 37-38 degrees Celsius, as reported by the Southern Hydro-Meteorological Station.
In its latest update, the southern region is anticipated to experience a resurgence of intense heat, peaking between 12:00 and 14:00, coupled with a decline in humidity levels.
This heatwave, expected to persist until mid-April, is projected to extend to southwestern provinces, particularly border areas such as Long An, Dong Thap, and An Giang provinces in the next three to five days.
In HCMC, the hot weather is set to continue over the weekend, with temperatures ranging from 35-37 degrees Celsius.
Although the El Nino phenomenon is weakening, its effects still linger, leading to the current exceptionally hot weather during the dry season, said Le Thi Xuan Lan, a hydrometeorological expert.
Lan warned that given the prevailing temperatures, the southern region could witness record highs of up to 40 degrees Celsius.
With the combination of scorching weather and a high ultraviolet (UV) index, the station advises caution, as prolonged outdoor activities could have adverse health effects. Moreover, amid low humidity and dry conditions, it is important to take preventive measures to mitigate the risk of fires and explosions.
