HCMC – The Ministry of Transport will invite tenders for eight new rest areas along the eastern North-South Expressway within this month. The selection of investors is expected to be finalized by June.

These facilities are part of a plan for building 24 rest areas under the management of the Ministry of Transport.

The eight rest areas will be located along the expressway sections of Mai Son – National Highway 45, Nghi Son – Dien Chau, Dien Chau – Bai Vot, Nha Trang – Cam Lam, Cam Lam – Vinh Hao, Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet (two rest areas), and Phan Thiet – Dau Giay.

Priority will be given to public service facilities at these areas, with operations anticipated to start around three months after the contractor selection.

Under the current plan, 36 rest areas will be constructed along the eastern stretch of the North-South Expressway, running from Lang Son to Ca Mau.

Of these, the Ministry has already constructed nine. One is set to be managed by local authorities on the Huu Nghi – Chi Lang expressway following its completion. Additionally, two now in the investment approval process are developed by the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC), and the remaining 24 by the Ministry of Transport.
