Kon Tum shaken by four earthquakes

HCMC – The Central Highlands province of Kon Tum was hit by four earthquakes today, July 28, with magnitudes ranging from 3.4 to 5, according to the Institute of Geophysics.

The latest magnitude-5 quake struck at 11:35 a.m. today at a depth of around 8.1 kilometers in Kon Plong District, Kon Tum. This is the strongest earthquake ever recorded in the province.

Those residing in Kon Tum, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Quang Nam, Danang, and Hue felt minor shaking. The earthquake has been assessed with a disaster risk level of 2.

On the morning of July 28, three consecutive earthquakes occurred in Kon Plong District, Kon Tum Province, with respective magnitudes of 3.4, 3.3 and 4.1.

Since 2021, Kon Plong has been susceptible to frequent seismic activity. The strongest earthquake previously recorded in the district in the past century struck on August 23, 2022, registering a magnitude of 4.7.
