Yagi heads for northern Vietnam after tearing through China’s Hainan

HCMC – Yagi, the most powerful storm in Asia this year, is forecast to make landfall in the northern coast of Vietnam this afternoon, September 7, after lashing China’s Hainan Island with heavy rain and strong winds.

As of 9 a.m. today, the super typhoon remained at level 14, around 130 kilometers away from the Quang Ninh-Haiphong coastline.

At 10 a.m., the eye of the storm neared the Quang Ninh-Haiphong coastline, packing winds at levels 11-12, equivalent to 133 kilometers per hour.

The typhoon is moving west-northwest and is forecast to make landfall within several hours, with packing winds of levels 10, 11, and 12 in Quang Ninh, Thai Binh, and Nam Dinh. Additionally, winds of levels 8 and 10 will affect the Thanh Hoa region and extend to inland provinces like Lang Son, Bac Ninh, and Bac Giang.

Around 91,000 troops, and 360,000 militia men and reservists have been mobilized to respond to Yagi.
